Reckless Love
When you think of the word reckless, usually reckless driving comes to mind along with the word carelessness. Evidently so the definition of the word reckless means, “utterly unconcerned about the consequences of some action; without caution; careless.” Now if I were to use the phrase, “the reckless love of God,” it would probably confuse many people. How on earth can God’s love be reckless? Unconcerned about our well being? That does not sound like our loving Father. But furthermore, the way God tends to love us even with our sinful nature is reckless. He is utterly unconcerned about the consequences it takes to save us, to get us to heaven. His love was so reckless, that He sent His son, His ONLY son to die for us, “For God so loved the world”... the famous John 3:16.
The comprehension of the love of God is eye-opening and we fundamentally do not deserve His love. His love is so overwhelming, and captivating to wrap our minds around. The creator of the world sent His one and only pure son to take on the sin of the world, becoming the ultimate sacrifice. Our sins were painted red on the cross at Calvary, and with all Jesus’ pain and suffering He endured, He obtains salvation for our sinful nature by the Grace of God. On the cross, He painfully said, “It is finished,” (John 19:30) and thus He gave up his body for the sin of the world.
And I’ll be honest, sometimes I neglect to remember how much He loves and cares for me. Or I seem to think that He has given up on me because I have sinned yet again. But then it all goes back to His unconditional love for me. That overwhelming, reckless love of God. But even when we are at our lowest, in the time when we give up on ourselves and we feel like quitting. When we go astray (Isaiah 53:6, Matthew 18:12-14) so far, that we do not know if it is possible for us to return. God is waiting for us and He is prepared to leave His precious ninety-nine, but we have to be willing to let ourselves be found.
“So He told them this parable, saying, “What man among you if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance ( Luke 15:3-7)”.
